Hiroshi Koizami, 93, and his son, shop owner Masamine Koizami, 64, buy fruits and vegetables at the Ota Market for the week ahead. Koizami and his father bid on popular produce, such as radishes, mangoes and lettuce. Masamine said his family has operated a small street market for the past 90 years. He said supermarkets increasingly dominate the Japanese food industry, leaving small shop owners like him struggling to stay in business.
